India is gearing up to become a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council. What prevents India from becoming its permanent member. What are the credentials that India does have to become a permanent UNSC member?United Nations Security Council:
The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, charged with ensuring international peace and security.
It also has the power of recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approving any changes to the UN Charter.
Though India aspired to become a permanent member in the UNSC for a long time, it couldn’t make it for various reasons:
Lack of political will on the part of 5 permanent members of UNSC like US and China towards overall United Nations reforms (in particular the reform of UNSC)
Strong lobby of Coffee club countries against the aspirations of G4 countries (especially pakistan against India)
Rejection of Non-Proliferation Treaty by India (pinpointing by certain countries)
Anti-India sentiment persisting among the Chinese politicians
India’s poor human development rankings
India’s inability to completely quell the insurgents and terrorists
